Position Title: Business Support Specialist II, III, Sr.
Purpose:
The Business Support Specialist (BSS) is responsible for executing specialized support tasks in a specific department. These functions are exercised across various systems and require timely input with a high level of accuracy.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Primary responsibilities for the BSS will include one or more of the following:
- Ad/Promo Responsibilities: Responsible for gathering and inputting information into the promotional planning systems and communicating that information to the appropriate banners and/or regions.
- Assortment and Presentation Responsibilities: Responsible for keeping the information related to assortment and shelf accurate in the appropriate systems.
- Pricing Responsibilities: Responsible for communicating pricing guidelines and recommendations to the appropriate banners and regions; responsible for accurate input of pricing information .
- Sourcing Responsibilities: Responsible for accurate input of deals into the appropriate systems. Assists the BDMs and BSMs in accurate record keeping associated to contracts, deals and promotions.
- Planning Responsibilities: Provides as needed support to the BDM and BSM related to planning. Will assist in gathering appropriate information, record keeping and filing related to planning process.
- Ad Proofing
- Information gathering, compiling and spread sheet creation
- Develop and maintain basic Excel templates
- Provides consistent feedback to banner and regional staffs. Acts as a point of contact for banner requests or questions.
- Acts as a liaison between other Business Planning Groups
Leveling Guide:
BSS II - Maintains complex records
- Responds to inquiries in area of responsibility
- Collects data/information for department use in special projects or reports
- Updates information and reports typically on the computer
- Checks information for accuracy
- Prepares and balances data
- Answers department phones as needed and routes to appropriate area
- Reviews information/data and makes decisions within well defined guidelines, parameters, and instruction
- Examines and prioritizes documents to determine work to be completed or best course of action
- Collects information for specific department reports
- Creates and maintains complex reports
- Sorts, files and maintains invoices, receipts, contracts, or other special department documents
- Compiles minor statistical data
- Makes and checks routine one and two step math calculations
- Completes keyboarding projects such as preparing correspondence and mailings
- Checks own work for accuracy
- Coordinates special programs and/or events
BSS III - In addition to the above
- Reviews and/or compares information/data and makes determination within defined guidelines, parameters, and instruction
- Maintains complex records and files, searches and investigates information found in files
- Compiles information and data from various sources for specific departmental reports, and creates reports, graphs and data comparisons
- Posts records and processes departmental documents requiring specific knowledge of functional area
- Completes detailed keyboarding projects such as preparing correspondence from rough drafts and completing specialized departmental forms
- Responds to inquiries that require specialized knowledge of the function to respond
BSS Sr - In addition to the above
- Analyzes and develops major projects and carries projects through to completion
- Researches and interprets a variety of levels of information
- Maintains unit documents such as ledgers, financial records, service information, etc.
- Coordinates and implements approved changes in policies and procedures affecting unit
- Provides advice and assistance to other employees in unit and acts as liaison to other units
- Monitors daily work of a group of lower level specialist and makes adjustments in division of work to ensure timely and accurate completion of work

Job Requirements:
Relevant Experience, Education, Certification, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
BSS II - High School education and 0-1 years of retail merchandising experience with a solid understanding of operations, systems, category management and merchandising.
- Reading, writing, math and communication skills at a proficient level
- Ability to follow verbal or written instruction
- Keyboarding proficiency
- Math skills at a proficient level
- Computer skills: word processing and/or spreadsheet
BSS III - Associate’s degree or equivalent experience and 1 year retail merchandising experience with a solid understanding of operations, systems, category management and merchandising.
- Intermediate keyboarding proficiency
- Intermediate computer skills: word processing and/or spreadsheet
- Math skills at a specific level (i.e. one step: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division or two step percent calculations or more advanced)
BSS Sr. - Associate’s degree or equivalent experience and 2 years retail merchandising experience with a solid understanding of operations, systems, category management and merchandising.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent keyboarding proficiency
- Excellent computer skill: word processing and/or spreadsheet
- Be detail oriented, ability to be organized, and strong analytical skills
- Possess ability to direct, organize, lead and control work group staff
