Title: Director Six Sigma Operations
PURPOSE:
The Director of Operations is responsible for directing the operational execution of the Six Sigma initiative within SUPERALU. This position is responsible for monitoring the performance of Six Sigma across operating geographies and directing activities to ensure financial, project development, cycle time, and personnel targets are met. The Director of Operations interacts heavily with Operational Deployment Leaders to develop, implement, and manage common operating practices and procedures to maintain consistency across the Six Sigma initiative. In addition, he/she is responsible for directing and monitoring the deployment of Six Sigma to new geographies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and advise 12-15 Deployment Leaders throughout the company to ensure SUPERVALU maintains a sufficient project pipeline, a consistent Six Sigma infrastructure, a common deployment methodology and the ongoing monitoring of financial results
- Direct project generation activities for the enterprise across all divisions and functional areas (estimate nearly 1,000 projects annually at full deployment)
- Direct the project approval process, providing leadership and expertise to the Functional Steering Committee
- Monitor project status and progress of Six Sigma Quality projects (approximately 200 Black Belts and 350 concurrent projects at full deployment)
- Manage and monitor progress/mix of the Six Sigma project portfolio; ensure project duration and value meet or exceed annual plan and that the portfolio focus matches against company goals, initiatives, and areas of focus
- Direct operational execution of Six Sigma within divisions / banners; identify and share “best practices” for managing Six Sigma operations
- Manage operational metrics; address key opportunity areas (financial, project development, cycle time, personnel, etc.)
- Establish and foster key relationships with division and functional leaders to build and maintain appropriate support of the Six Sigma initiative
- Interact with corporate Six Sigma leadership to ensure operational alignment
- Participate in the Black Belt selection and interview process
PEOPLE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Indirectly responsible for managing the following resources at full deployment:
-8-12 Project Development Managers
-8-12 Deployment Leaders (high-level directors)
-15+ Master Black Belts
-200 Black Belts
JOB REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business
- Five or more or more years of relevant business area experience in which the following occurred:
-Demonstrated competency in strategic thinking with strong abilities in relationship management
-Participation on multidiscipline, high-performance work teams/groups, preferably in a leadership capacity
-Demonstrated competency in developing efficient and effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems
-Demonstrated competency in leading high-performance associates - Prior SUPERVALU Six Sigma experience strongly preferred
- Five years experience in the retail operations
- Ability and confidence to interact with and influence Executive Management
- Ability to guide work of a team of individuals
- Ability to prioritize and assign work according to business priorities and strategies
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills
- Understanding of organizational impacts that result from changes in process
- Excellent facilitation skills with the ability to drive toward solutions
- Ability to maintain a solutions-focused approach
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all management levels
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to be a team player; flexible, friendly, congenial, and enthusiastic
- Self-starter who can operate with limited direction
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT: - Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.
- Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal.
- Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday.
- Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties.
