Position Title:Manager Sales and Promotions

Primary Function

A Corporate Sales and Promotions Manager ensures the integrity and execution of corporate merchandising and marketing initiatives are aligned with business development plans to drive profitable sales growth. Execution is facilitated through direct supervision of the business support specialists through communication and collaboration with Banners/Regions and other functional areas. Integrity is established by ensuring alignment with the strategic and financial objectives of each department, functional area, banner/region and the company. The manager will also be actively involved in aligning promotional activity within the department’s strategies and the subsequent initiative creation and deployment across 48 states and 3 store formats and supply chain regions.


Job Responsibilities and Activities

1. Planning Responsibilities: Responsible for coordination and collaboration across departments, categories banner and region aligning each department’s categories and activities to ensure the means equate to the financial, tactical, and strategic expectations of the business. Garners alignment with departments and banners/regions to sustain our strategic sales and promotional vision while ensuring local relevance.

2. Ad/Promo Responsibilities: Manages the alignment of the departments total company promotional activities through the trimester and period planning sessions. Making certain that those operatives are done so collaboratively with banners/regions and that they are fiscally sound.

3. Execution Responsibilities: Facilitates collaboration to build effective relationships with departments, functional areas, banners and regions ensuring alignment on national promotional plans and display activity. Works with department VP’s, Directors, BDM’s and banner/regions to ensure the promotional calendar is aligned with department and category strategies allowing for local relevance, facilitating reconciliation in a timely manner.

4. Managerial Responsibilities: Impacts the organization through the management of internal and external resources across departments, functional areas and banners/regions. Leads, coaches and develops Business Support Specialist. Responsible for leading Business Support Specialists and other members of Enterprise Merchandising/Marketing in aligning promotional and sales initiatives. Performs annual review process for BSS’s.

5. Communication: Maintains formal and informal channels of upward, downward, and lateral communication, while fostering discussion, suggestion, and expression of thought and innovation. Facilitates discussions and coordinates promotional activity through the period planning session matrixed with banners /regions gaining alignment with respect to department strategies and local relevance.

6. Financial management: Manages promotional activity alignment with annual, quarterly and weekly sales and total profit projections by contributor in their area of responsibility. Ensures promotional activity is aligned and accurate with financial commitments and results.



Job Requirements

1. Education, Certification, and Relevant Experience: BA degree (or equivalent experience) and 5 or more years of retail working knowledge around sourcing, supply chain management, category business planning, marketing, consumer research, operational and financial management practices across multiple banners or regions/geographies.


2. Analytical Skills: Must have a strong knowledge base in supermarket retail and an understanding of consumer behavior in relation to product performance. Must carry a detailed understanding of cause-effect relations between operational activities and performance through utilization of consumer and financial data, merchandising, marketing, and/or statistical means.


3. Interpersonal Skills: Proven ability to work successfully across all areas of the company; can successfully monitor performance; strong client management skills, particularly working with other departments, functional areas and banners/regions; ability to influence and lead effective partnerships with the banners/regions; can thrive in a complicated matrix environment.


4. Innovation: Champions new ideas and initiatives and creates an environment that supports innovation; leverages fresh perspectives, breakthrough ideas, and new paradigms to create value in the market.


5. Strategic Skills: Demonstrate ability to be forward thinking and have a global perspective; while delivering promotional and sales plans aligned with department category plans and programs that compliment both the corporate and banner/region strategies leading to strong category sales and profit performance and maintaining local relevance.

6. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills including public speaking to develop and maintain effective business relationships internally and externally.

7. Technical Skills: Well developed computer aptitude with proficient skills and knowledge of office software programs; ability to adapt to and learn new systems quickly.
